Looking for a bright blue drink recipe that's refreshing, tropical, and easy to make at home? This Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe combines coconut water, citrus, blue spirulina, and a hint of coconut extract to create a vibrant blue mocktail that feels like summer in a glass.

If you've ever ordered an Ocean Water drink and wished you could recreate those tropical flavors at home, this version is for you. For years, I've wanted to create my own take on Ocean Water using ingredients that felt a little more Realest Real. Instead of relying on soda, artificial blue coloring, or overly sweet syrups, this recipe combines coconut water, lemonade, limeade, and blue spirulina to create a drink that's both beautiful and refreshing.

One of my favorite things about this Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe is how versatile it is. You can keep it simple with a fresh lime wheel and plenty of ice, or you can take it a step further with an optional coconut sea foam topping. If you're planning a pool party, beach-themed gathering, Shark Week celebration, or simply want a fun summer mocktail, this bright blue drink is guaranteed to make a splash.

Lately, it feels like bright blue drinks are everywhere. Between social media trends and Starbucks drink recipes popping up all over the internet, I couldn't help but laugh because I had already been working on this recipe before the trend seemed to explode. Sometimes timing works out perfectly.

The result is a tropical mocktail that's refreshing, citrusy, lightly coconut-forward, and absolutely gorgeous to look at. Whether you're serving it poolside, beachside, or simply enjoying it on your patio after a long day, this Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe brings a little vacation energy to every sip. Another fun Blue drink to try next is our Red, White and Boba Patriotic Sparkler!

Ingredients for Blue Ocean Water Drink

One of my favorite things about this ingredient list is that most of it can be picked up during a normal grocery run. The only specialty ingredient is the blue spirulina, which gives the drink its signature ocean-blue color.

  • Lemonade
  • Limeade
  • Blue spirulina
  • Coconut Extract
  • Ice

A quick look at some of the star ingredients. Full ingredient list is included in the recipe card below.

How to Make the Blue Ocean Water Drink

Step 1: Fill Your Glass

Fill a large glass with plenty of ice.

Step 2: Mix The Drink

In a shaker, combine lemonade, limeade, coconut water, blue spirulina, and a few drops of coconut extract.

Shake until chilled.

Step 3: Pour Over Ice

Pour the bright blue mixture over your prepared glass.

Step 4: Garnish

Add a fresh lime wheel.

Step 5: Optional Sea Foam

If desired, gently spoon coconut sea foam over the top.

Step 6: Serve Immediately

Serve cold and enjoy.

Optional Coconut Sea Foam Topping

The coconut sea foam is completely optional, but it's a fun addition if you're serving these for a party or special occasion.

The foam creates a beautiful white layer over the bright blue drink and adds a stronger coconut flavor to each sip.

If you're someone who loves coconut, you'll probably enjoy the sea foam version. If you're more interested in keeping the color as vibrant as possible, the classic version is still fantastic on its own.

The best part is that both versions work equally well. This isn't one of those recipes where skipping the topping changes everything.

Making Ocean Water By The Pitcher

This Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe is perfect for parties because it's easy to scale up and make ahead.

For approximately 8 servings, combine:

  • 2 cups lemonade
  • 2 cups limeade
  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 2 teaspoons blue spirulina
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons coconut extract, to taste

Stir well and refrigerate until ready to serve. When it's time to serve, pour over glasses filled with ice and garnish with fresh lime wheels.

I recommend starting with 1 teaspoon of coconut extract, tasting, and then adding more if you'd like a stronger coconut flavor. Different brands can vary in intensity, so it's always best to adjust to your preference.

If you're serving the optional coconut sea foam, prepare it separately and spoon it over individual glasses just before serving.

A Fun Twist On Ocean Water

I've wanted to make my own version of Ocean Water for a while now. There's just something about that bright blue color that instantly makes you think of summer, beach days, and tropical vacations.

What I love about this Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe is that it's simple to make, easy to customize, and feels just as appropriate for a pool party as it does for an afternoon on the patio. Serve it with a fresh lime wheel, add the optional coconut sea foam, or dress it up with ocean-themed gummies for a fun party drink.

While I was working on this recipe, I couldn't help but notice bright blue drinks popping up everywhere. Between blue coconut drinks, Starbucks-inspired drinks, and all sorts of bright blue drink recipes showing up online, it feels like the perfect time to share this refreshing tropical mocktail.

Whether you're making a single glass or a pitcher for friends and family, this Ocean Water drink brings a little bit of that vacation feeling to every sip.

Tips for the Best Blue Ocean Water Drink

A few simple tips will help you get the brightest color and best flavor every time.

Use Plenty of Ice

This drink is at its best when it's ice cold. Fill your glass generously with ice before pouring so every sip stays refreshing.

Start Small With Coconut Extract

A little goes a long way. I recommend starting with just a few drops, tasting, and adjusting from there. The goal is a subtle coconut flavor that complements the citrus rather than overpowering it.

Add The Blue Spirulina Gradually

Different brands can vary slightly in color intensity. Start with the recommended amount and add more if you'd like a deeper ocean-blue color.

Use Fresh Lime For Garnish

A simple lime wheel instantly elevates this bright blue drink and adds a fresh citrus aroma that works beautifully with the coconut notes.

Add The Coconut Sea Foam Just Before Serving

If you're making the optional sea foam topping, wait until you're ready to serve. This helps maintain that beautiful white-to-blue gradient and keeps the presentation looking its best.

Customize The Sweetness

One of my favorite things about this Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe is how easy it is to adjust. Prefer a tarter drink? Add a little extra lime. Like things on the sweeter side? Increase the lemonade slightly. It's easy to make this recipe your own.

Perfect Occasions for this Blue Ocean Water Drink

This drink feels right at home at:

  • Pool Parties
  • Beach Parties
  • Summer Birthdays
  • Shark Week Celebrations
  • Family Gatherings
  • Backyard BBQs
  • Tropical-Themed Events
  • Vacation Send-Off Parties
  • Summer Book Clubs
  • Weekend Get-Togethers

It's one of those bright blue drink recipes that instantly gets people asking:

"What is that?"

How to Serve This Blue Ocean Water Drink

For the best flavor, serve this Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe ice cold in a clear glass packed with ice. If you're making the optional coconut sea foam, wait until just before serving to spoon it over the top so you keep that beautiful white-to-blue gradient.

For larger gatherings, you can easily make this recipe by the pitcher and let everyone add their own garnishes. A simple lime wheel is all you really need, but ocean-themed gummies can be a fun addition if you're serving this for a themed party or family gathering.

My personal favorite? A tall glass, plenty of ice, and a fresh lime wheel. Sometimes simple is best.

How to Store

For the best presentation and flavor, assemble each drink just before serving.

More Than Just A Pretty Blue Drink

Let's be honest, the color is what grabs your attention first. But one of the reasons I love this Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe is that it's more than just a pretty drink. The color comes from blue spirulina instead of artificial dyes, coconut water adds electrolytes, and the lemon and lime keep everything bright and refreshing.

I'm not a nutritionist, but it's nice knowing there are some feel-good ingredients mixed in with all those tropical vacation vibes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I make this Blue Ocean Water Drink Recipe ahead of time?

Yes. Mix the liquid ingredients ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator. Add ice and garnishes just before serving.

What can I use instead of blue spirulina?

If you don't have blue spirulina, you can substitute a few drops of blue food coloring. The blue spirulina provides a naturally derived color, but both options will create the show stopping bright blue color.

Can I skip the coconut extract?

Absolutely. The drink will still be delicious. The coconut extract simply boosts the tropical coconut flavor.

Is the coconut sea foam necessary?

Not at all. The sea foam is completely optional and the drink stands perfectly well on its own.

Can I make this for kids?

Definitely. The gummy version is especially fun for beach parties, ocean-themed celebrations, and summer birthdays.

Ingredients

Blue Ocean Water

  • ½ cup lemonade
  • ½ cup limeade
  • ½ cup coconut water
  • 2 tablespoons Topo Chico optional
  • ¼ teaspoon blue spirulina
  • ½ - 1 tsp coconut extract
  • Ice
  • Lime wheels for garnish

Optional Coconut Sea Foam

  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon cream of coconut

Instructions

  • Fill two glasses with ice and set aside.
  • Add ice to the shaker and combine the lemonade, limeade, coconut water, Topo Chico (if using), blue spirulina, and coconut extract. Shake until well chilled.
  • Pour the bright blue mixture evenly between the prepared glasses.
  • Garnish with fresh lime wheels.
  • For the optional coconut sea foam, froth the heavy cream, coconut milk, and cream of coconut until thick but still pourable. Gently spoon over the top of each drink just before serving.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • Start with a few drops of coconut extract and adjust to taste. A little goes a long way, but it really helps boost the coconut flavor while keeping the drink bright blue.
  • For the brightest blue color, avoid adding coconut milk or cream directly to the drink itself. If using the optional coconut sea foam, expect the color to soften slightly where the foam meets the drink.
  • Homemade limeade works beautifully if you can't find prepared limeade at the store.
  • Making this for kids? Serve it in smaller cups and top with ocean-themed gummies for a fun beach or ocean-inspired treat.
  • Ocean-themed gummies also make a great garnish for pool parties, Shark Week celebrations, summer birthdays, and beach-themed gatherings.
  • Looking to serve a crowd? Be sure to check out the pitcher version in the post above.
