There’s nothing like celebrating different cultures—and this year, I’m honoring the Chinese Zodiac with a special twist. Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon 🐉 (my sign!), I created a refreshing dragonfruit margarita—or as I call it, the Dragrrrita!

Inspired by the bold energy of the Year of the Dragon, this dragonfruit margarita brings vibrant color and a little fire to your glass. It’s the perfect way to toast the season—and your zodiac sign if you’re a fellow Dragon, too.

There are 12 different Chinese Zodiac signs and depending on the year you were born decides which animal you are considered. If you or someone you know were born in one of the following years 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, cheers to a fellow Dragon!

It is said that the personality traits of people born in the year of the dragon are: charismatic, intelligent, confident, powerful and they are naturally lucky and gifted. In everything that they do, they tend to do it to the best of their ability with high standards.

The color of this drink is just as vibrant as a Dragon's personality. We added a touch of freeze-dried dragonfruit powder to the kosher salt before rimming the glass for yet another pop of bold color. You can shake up, blend, or even make this cocktail without alcohol to suit everyone.

Dragonfruit has been described as tasting similar to Kiwi with a familiar tanginess. You can add as much or as little as you want to taste and add that unique boost of color to an otherwise basic margarita. The dragonfruit offers benefits to your health too, as they are very high in vitamin C and antioxidants. Like anything else, I am not a health professional, so if you've never tried dragonfruit before make sure to try some before mixing it into your drink to be sure you like it and it agrees with you.

One thing’s for sure—you don’t have to wait for the next Year of the Dragon to enjoy this delicious sip. Cheers!

-You can make your simple syrup mixture or buy some premade from the store.
-To make this minus the alcohol, opt for a bottled limeade or lemonade in place of the liquor.
